The Source or, How we made the GoA album

Friday, March 21st, 2008

This album was recorded in the spring and summer of 2004 at the sadly, now-defunct Goonsville Studios, in Seattle, Washington. Here’s the gear we used to make it:

  • Pedals:
    • Boss tuner –> Mesa/Boogie V-twin Tube Pre-amp (Modded by Peter, again) –> Boss EQ –> Boss Phaser –> Boss tremolo (Modded by Robert Keeley) –> Boss Delay Unit
  • Amp:
    • Marshall Valvestate Amp head set on clean, just a touch of reverb -> Marshall 4-12 cabinet

Drums:

  • CB700 Internationalle (tom, floor tom, 2 crashes) –> 4 mics (bass, snare/hi-hat, 2 overheads) –> Behringer mixer –> 4 track, tracks 1 and 2

Bass:

  • Rickenbacker 4001 –> Crate bass combo, with a touch of compression

Vocals:

  • SM58 or 57 run through a presonus tube preamp and DBX table-top compressor

Recorders:

  • SM 57’s or Beta SM57’s for the overhead drum mics
  • Yamaha MT4X
    cassette 4-track
