The Source or, How we made the GoA album
Friday, March 21st, 2008This album was recorded in the spring and summer of 2004 at the sadly, now-defunct Goonsville Studios, in Seattle, Washington. Here’s the gear we used to make it:
Guitars:
- Either a custom Squire telecaster w/ humbuckers (outfitted by Peter Breyfogle of Breyfogle Instruments), or Epiphone Genesis
- Pedals:
- Boss tuner –> Mesa/Boogie V-twin Tube Pre-amp (Modded by Peter, again) –> Boss EQ –> Boss Phaser –> Boss tremolo (Modded by Robert Keeley) –> Boss Delay Unit
- Amp:
- Marshall Valvestate Amp head set on clean, just a touch of reverb -> Marshall 4-12 cabinet
Drums:
- CB700 Internationalle (tom, floor tom, 2 crashes) –> 4 mics (bass, snare/hi-hat, 2 overheads) –> Behringer mixer –> 4 track, tracks 1 and 2
Bass:
- Rickenbacker 4001 –> Crate bass combo, with a touch of compression
Vocals:
- SM58 or 57 run through a presonus tube preamp and DBX table-top compressor
Recorders:
- SM 57’s or Beta SM57’s for the overhead drum mics
- Yamaha MT4X

- Sonar3 Studio Edition
Duplicators:
- Diskfaktory in Irvine CA, 100 discs for 3.00 each
